Moldova set to become part of Romania under Western plans Russian official says
Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova has said that Moldova, according to the plans of Western countries, is set to become part of Romania.
“It is discussed at summits and EU foreign ministers' meetings, where they mention that EU membership has reduced the number of benefits available to them because they now have to share with others. Imagine what they will tell the Moldovans? They won’t say anything because, according to the West’s plan, they won’t be Moldovans anymore; they will have to become part of Romania,” the diplomat stated, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“Certainly, there is a process of Romania assimilating Moldova. This is a historical struggle that has been ongoing for decades, even centuries, and it has reached a new level,” Zakharova added.
Moldova will hold presidential election on October 20, during which President Maia Sandu aims to secure a second term. The election will be held alongside a referendum on joining the EU. Citizens will be asked to amend the constitution to enshrine the irreversibility of the European course and to include a provision that prioritises EU regulations over local laws.
