Secretary General: Baku has all sports infrastructure it needs

Baku has developed all the necessary sports infrastructure, according to Hugo Alonso, Secretary General of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES Europe).

Speaking to reporters after the official ceremony designating Baku as the World Capital of Sport, Alonso highlighted the city’s appeal, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“Monaco has passed the status of the next World Capital of Sport to Baku. We know that your capital has all the required sports infrastructure. Baku has previously hosted a number of international competitions, each of which was held to a very high standard,” he said.

ACES Europe has named Baku the World Capital of Sport for 2026, recognising the city’s growing role on the international sporting stage.
