Serbia offers to host Putin-Trump summit on Ukraine
Serbia's foreign minister announced that his country is ready to host a potential summit between Russia and the United States, considering its "good relations" with all sides.
Marko Đurić expressed this offer during an interview with the American Fox News channel following his attendance at a UN Security Council meeting regarding Kosovo, Caliber.Az reports.
“Serbia is among the countries offering its services. Considering our history and good relations with all sides, we are ready to host any negotiations if there is interest,” Đurić said.
He emphasised the need to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and added that Serbia supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states within the borders recognised by the United Nations, including Ukraine.
The offer to host peace talks comes after plans for a summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary have been cancelled by Washington, citing Russia's lack of interest in progressing towards a deal.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had also expressed his country's readiness to host the highly-anticipated summit, citing Ankara’s good relations with both Moscow and Washington and already established history of mediating efforts in this conflict.
