Spain reports over 120 cases of new coronavirus strain

More than 120 cases of a new strain of the coronavirus have been detected in Spain.

According to the newspaper El Periódico, citing sources in the Catalan government, 52 patients have been found to be infected with EG.5, a new variant of the omicron strain, which was first detected in Catalonia on June 8.

As doctors explained, the new variant of the coronavirus can cause an increase in the number of hospitalizations in local healthcare facilities.

According to the Spanish press, there is an increase of infected patients across the whole kingdom, though in most of cases only light symptoms have been reported.
