Spain climb to No. 1 in FIFA rankings after historic World Cup triumph

Spain have moved to the top of the FIFA world rankings following their victory over Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, according to updated rankings published by the governing body on July 20.

The World Cup champions gained 30.27 ranking points after their title-winning campaign and now lead the standings with 1,995.88 points.

Argentina dropped to second place with 1,970.37 points.

Spain secured the 2026 World Cup title by defeating Argentina in the final. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute after being set up by Nico Williams. The Spanish side also had two goals disallowed during the match.
