Sunni parties unite to address Iraq’s challenges
Iraq’s Sunni political forces, which emerged victorious in the November 11 general elections, have announced the creation of a unified platform called the National Political Council.
A written statement issued by the new body emphasised that the Council has been established to collectively address the numerous political, economic, and social challenges currently facing the country, per Anadolu Agency.
The National Political Council brings together almost all Sunni parties, groups, and coalitions that won seats in parliament, including the Taqaddum Party, Azim Party, Siade Party, National Hashim Coalition, and Jamahir Party.
The founding assembly, featuring broad representation, was held in Baghdad under the initiative of Siade Alliance leader Hamis Hancher.
The statement highlighted that the Council’s main objective will be to safeguard the political, social, and constitutional rights of the Sunni community while promoting constructive engagement with other political forces in the interest of all Iraqis.
