Supporters of Kocharyan, Sargsyan bribe Armenian citizens to participate in rallies

Two residents of Armenia’s Armavir region have been detained as suspected of inciting material interest to participate in opposition rallies.

Caliber.Az quotes the Armenian media as saying.

According to the information, a criminal case has been initiated at the Armavir Regional Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee under the second paragraph of the third part of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

The investigation is aimed at revealing all the circumstances of the incident when those two Armavir residents tried to lure citizens” into gatherings of the political opposition by offering bribes.

On May 5, an audio recording appeared on the Internet, in which the two are discussing on the phone the issue of receiving money from the rally organisers for participating in the rallies.

The Department said it has found out the identities of those lured into the rallies. These are natives of the mentioned region, born in 1966 and 1967, they have already been detained.

It was also reported that the organisers of opposition rallies materially lured one of the men mentioned, and he, in turn, continued to attract others in the same way.

The circulated audio record was investigated, and instructions were given to the investigating body.
Earlier, the Investigative Committee announced the establishment of the circumstances of the hooliganism committed in Yerevan. The official statement says that a group of oppositionists, violating public order and showing obvious disrespect for society, blocked the road with tires, after which they set fire to them.

During the preliminary investigation, several persons were interrogated, video recordings from surveillance cameras installed at the site were watched, and a forensic explosive examination was assigned.

Two demonstrators were charged under the first part of Article 258 (Hooliganism).

The Department notes that measures are being taken to identify the other participants in the incident.
