Swiss skier wins first gold of Milan–Cortina 2026 winter games
The first gold medal of the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games was awarded on February 7 following the men’s downhill race in Bormio, northern Italy.
On a clear day with ideal racing conditions, Swiss skier Franjo von Allmen delivered a strong performance on the demanding course, finishing in 1 minute 51.61 seconds to claim the top spot on the podium, Caliber.Az reports per CBS.
Italy’s Giovanni Franzoni secured the silver medal after crossing the line just 0.2 seconds behind von Allmen. His teammate Dominik Paris completed the podium with a bronze-medal finish, edging out Swiss favourite Marco Odermatt.
Among American competitors, Kyle Negomir was the highest finisher in the men’s downhill, placing 10th.
Competition at the Games continued later on February 7, with additional medals set to be decided, including in the women’s skiathlon at the Tesero Cross-Country Skiing Stadium in Lago, Italy.
