Syria, Russia hold talks on military, political, economic cooperation
On December 24, Syrian ministers met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss deepening cooperation across military, political, and economic spheres.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani and Minister of Defence Major General Murhaf Abu Qasra held talks in Moscow focusing on strategic partnership in the military industries sector, Caliber.Az reports via Syrian media.
Discussions included upgrading military equipment, transferring technical expertise, and expanding research and development to strengthen the Syrian Arab Army and enhance national defence capabilities.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, reaffirming the need for continued political and diplomatic coordination. They emphasised respect for international law and rejected external interference in the domestic affairs of states.
Economic cooperation was also on the agenda, with officials exploring reconstruction projects, infrastructure development, investment promotion, and trade expansion to support Syria’s post-war recovery and improve living standards.
President Putin reiterated Russia’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity, condemning any attempts to divide the country. He also criticised repeated Israeli violations of Syrian territory, describing them as threats to regional stability and security.
