Taliban leaders demand lifting of sanctions against them
Representatives of the Taliban have appealed to the United Nations Security Council (UN) not to use sanctions as a tool of pressure and to remove them from the leaders of the movement.
In their statement, the Taliban pointed out that in the Doha Agreement it was decided to lift all sanctions against the leaders of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and it must be implemented, Interfax reports.
The validity period of the permission for foreign travel for Taliban officials expired on August 19, the UN Security Council has not yet taken a decision on its extension. The Taliban stressed that maintaining the ban instead of political dialogue will create a distance between Afghanistan and the world, which should be avoided.
"Afghanistan, in which America, NATO and 50 other countries failed to create peace and stability with all its strength and power, is safe and stable today in the interests of the whole world," the statement says.
