Tashkent, Baku seal strategic pact as Uzbek Senate gives green light
The Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis has ratified the Treaty on Allied Relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, signalling a formal commitment to deepening cooperation across political, economic, and strategic spheres.
The treaty was approved during the chamber’s sixth plenary session, Caliber.Az reports, citing domestic media.
The agreement, initially signed in Tashkent on August 23, 2024, was presented under the law titled “On the Ratification of the Treaty Between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan on Allied Relations.”
Senators emphasised that the treaty enshrines a new phase in bilateral ties, aimed at strengthening both nations’ independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and sustainable economic development through legal and institutional mechanisms.
The document outlines key obligations for both parties, including a commitment not to join any alliances or blocs that are directed against one another. It also requires each side to refrain from actions that could harm the strategic partnership or allied relations, based on the assessment of either party.
The Senate stressed that ratifying the treaty would bolster mutual trust, enhance friendly relations, and consolidate strategic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
Additionally, the treaty sets the stage for expanding political collaboration, intensifying trade and economic ties, and deepening cultural and humanitarian exchanges. Lawmakers highlighted that it also creates favourable conditions for implementing joint projects and further strengthening cooperation in diverse fields.
