Tbilisi to transform iconic TV tower into world-class cultural landmark
The Tbilisi City Hall has officially commenced the ambitious redevelopment of the city's iconic television tower atop Mount Mtatsminda, aiming to transform the Soviet-era structure into a state-of-the-art cultural and tourism landmark.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced that the modernized facility will feature a panoramic restaurant and an observation deck situated 70 metres above ground, offering sweeping views of the Georgian capital, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
A dedicated visitor center will also be constructed at the base of the tower, enhancing the site’s accessibility and appeal to both domestic and international visitors.
“We’ve worked on this for a long time, holding numerous meetings with the Historical Council to determine which project should be implemented,” Kaladze stated, emphasizing the careful planning and consultation that has underpinned the initiative.
The redevelopment is being spearheaded by the Israeli firm Kass Land (Kass Group)—the same company behind the renowned glass bridge in Dashbashi Canyon in the Tsalka region. The modernization project represents a capital investment of no less than $4 million, with all required permits secured and construction currently underway. Completion is projected for March 2028.
Under the terms of the agreement, the tourist complex will be operated by the investor for 25 years, after which full ownership and operational control of the infrastructure will be transferred to the state at no cost. The designated recipient is Georgian TV and Radio Center LLC, a state enterprise.
Mayor Kaladze underlined that the project's long-term vision extends beyond architectural aesthetics. “Our objective is to turn the television tower into not just an architectural symbol of Tbilisi, but into a cultural hub of international stature,” he said.
