Key US-Armenia TRIPP agreement enters constitutional review
The Armenian government is set to refer its strategic cooperation agreement with the United States under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project to the Constitutional Court before submitting it to parliament for ratification.
At its July 16 meeting, the government is expected to approve a legislative initiative on the draft law "On the Ratification of the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project," which was signed in Washington on June 1, 2026, and in Yerevan on June 4, 2026, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The government will seek a ruling from the Constitutional Court on whether the obligations contained in the international agreement are compatible with Armenia's Constitution before moving forward with the ratification process.
"For the purpose of determining the compliance of the obligations enshrined in the international treaty with the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, apply to the Constitutional Court. In the event that the Constitutional Court recognizes the obligations contained in the international treaty as consistent with the Constitution, the Government's legislative initiative shall be submitted to the National Assembly in accordance with the established procedure.
Appoint Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan as the government's representative before the Constitutional Court, granting him all the rights accorded to a party under the Constitutional Law 'On the Constitutional Court,'" the draft decision states.
