Tesla ready to enter Turkish market, says minister
The US electric car maker Tesla continues intensive talks with Ankara to enter the Turkish market, Anadolu quotes the Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank as saying.
Varank voiced the remarks while commenting on the outcome of a meeting at the Tesla factory in Fremont City, California, during his visit to the US.
"Tesla is one of the brands of the global automotive industry’s future. The company is looking to expand exports," the minister said.
"In fact, Tesla has expressed its interest in investing in Türkiye before, including setting up recharging stations, but the process has been delayed due to the company's internal workings," he noted.
Varank also noted the importance of Türkiye's cooperation with Tesla in the field of technology.
"Türkiye has a very serious incentive system for investors, especially in terms of research and development. We welcome investment. For Tesla, market access is important, and for us, investment in technology and production is important. We presented our proposals to the company. Currently, Tesla already has suppliers from Türkiye," the minister said, adding that the relevant talks will continue.
He also invited brands from all over the world to invest in Türkiye.
“As you know, the whole world is undergoing major changes and transformations amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, including in supply chains. Western countries are looking for suppliers and one of the most important alternatives is Türkiye. In this sense, we want to cooperate with Tesla. We have made our suggestions," Varank added.
The minister recalled that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Elon Musk have warm ties.
