Ersin Tatar, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), has lauded Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his significant focus on the unity of Turkic states.
In an interview with Turkish newspaper Sabah, Tatar expressed his gratitude to Aliyev for supporting the interests of Turkish Cyprus and contributing to the solidarity of the Turkic world, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Tatar noted that Lefkosha is actively fostering dialogue with Baku and Ankara, embodying the saying, “One nation, three states.” He emphasized that his visits to Azerbaijan are crucial steps toward gaining recognition for Turkish Cyprus.
During his meeting with President Aliyev, Tatar remarked that the Azerbaijani leader places great importance on the unity and cohesion of Turkic states and highlighted the need to consolidate efforts for the future of the Organization of Turkic States.
"The TRNC is the southernmost representative of the Turkic world. Our country holds significant importance and value for the interests of the Turkic nations in the Eastern Mediterranean," Tatar stated.
Addressing security concerns for Turkish Cyprus amidst the active militarization of the island's Greek community, Tatar pointed out Cyprus's favourable geographical position. "Military planes taking off from airbases in Türkiye's Adana can reach the shores of Cyprus in just five minutes," he noted.
