Turkic states shine at Paris Olympics, securing 41 medals
Athletes from Turkic states made a remarkable impact at the Paris Olympics, winning a total of 41 medals, as announced by Kubanychbek Omuraliyev, Secretary General of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS).
Omuraliyev expressed in a Facebook post his congratulations to all the athletes and their fans for this outstanding achievement, Caliber.Az reports.
Azerbaijani athletes contributed seven medals to the tally at the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Judo champions Hidayat Heydarov (73kg) and Zelim Kotsoyev (100kg) both secured gold, while taekwondo athlete Gashim Magomedov (58kg) and boxer Alfonso Dominguez (92kg) won silver. Bronze medals were claimed by Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov (67kg), freestyle wrestler Giorgi Meshvildishvili, and Magomedkhan Magomedov.
Kazakhstani athletes also performed impressively, taking home seven medals, including one gold, three silver, and three bronze. Kyrgyz athletes earned six Olympic medals, with two silver and four bronze. The Turkish team brought home eight medals, including three silver and five bronze.
For Uzbekistan, the Paris Olympics marked their most successful performance in the country’s history of independence, with athletes securing 13 medals — eight gold, two silver, and three bronze.
In the overall medal standings, Uzbekistan ranked 13th, Azerbaijan 30th, Kazakhstan 43rd, Türkiye 64th, and Kyrgyzstan 68th.
