Turkish defence industry set to experience record-level exports of UAVs, ammunitions

The Turkish defence and industrial complex is bracing itself for record-level exports due to an increase in supplies of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ammunition.

As Anadolu reported, the government is actively supporting defence companies through the defence Industry Administration which serves under the Turkish Presidential Administration.

According to the latest data, the volume of export of Turkish defence goods increased by 35.7% this year, reaching $3.770 billion, while the figure for the same period last year was $2.778 billion.

The sector’s exports in 12 months are expected to reach a record $4.202 billion, with a growth of 37.4%.

Most of the sector’s sales come from UAVs, with the volume of those exports having increased by 80% over the 11 months of this year, to reach $871.5 million dollars compared to $484.6 million dollars in the same period of 2021.

The famous Turkish UAV producer, Baykar, managed to retain the lead in sales from drones in 2021.

The largest increase in exports has been attributed to ammunition and missile systems, an astonishing 179%, resulting in total sales of $443.7 million this year.

Land vehicle equipment have also experienced sales increases by 63% to reach $428.3 million.

Meanwhile, the import of aerospace and defence equipment increased by 7.2% to $3.611 billion in the first 10 months of this year. Out of this, $.265 billion were spent on passenger aircrafts and $938 million on the purchasing of foreign engines.
