Turkish media: Russian oligarch Abramovich buys mansion in Istanbul
The Russian oligarch and politician Roman Abramovich has moved from London to Istanbul, having bought the property for $18 million.
The mansion in Istanbul's Uskudar district belonged to Turkish preacher Adnan Oktar, who in January 2021 was sentenced to 8,658 years in prison for kidnapping, violence and harassment, Hürriyet reports, citing sources.
The 96-hectare plot of land has two buildings with a combined area of about 2,000 square metres.
According to the newspaper's claims, Abramovich originally wanted to buy a house on the Bosphorus, but he failed to get approval for the construction of a helipad. Therefore, he purchased a plot of land elsewhere.
The publication notes that a helipad is being built on the property and the house is being renovated. The roads around the mansion have been repaired and a high fence has been erected around the perimeter of the plot.
The press service of Roman Abramovich denied information about the purchase of the mansion. "This is not true," the businessman's press office said
