Turkish unmanned ship “MİR” launches torpedo VIDEO
A torpedo has been launched from an unmanned ship “MİR” for the first time in Turkish history.
The MİR unmanned surface vehicle (USV), which was developed at SEFINE shipyard under a contract signed between the Defence Industry Authority and ASELSAN, will be used for anti-submarine warfare purposes, has demonstrated another important basic combat mission, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Twitter page of SavunmaSanayiST.com.
The event, which was also attended by representatives from the Turkish Defence Industries and Navy Command Staff, saw the successful firing of lightweight torpedoes from the ASELSAN system integrated into the MİR USV.
While the MİR ship is used for anti-submarine warfare as its primary purpose, it can also be used for missions such as reconnaissance/surveillance/scout, protection of critical assets and floating platforms, and surface warfare.
The MİR ship, which can detect submarines using autonomous navigation and sonar capabilities and attack with light torpedoes and missiles, can work in conjunction with UAVs and unmanned underwater vehicles.
The USV, which was first spotted at sea in June 2022, had previously been used with BMK ALBATROS-S as a BMK swarm.
