Türkiye beats competitors in securing Syria’s classified documents
In Syria, as is typical after a revolution, there is a race to collect documents left behind by the security services of the ousted Assad regime.
While governments from both near and far, along with their intelligence agencies, scramble to access these records in Syria, Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organisation has managed to stay one step ahead, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The National Intelligence Organisation swiftly seized intelligence archives in Syria, granting Ankara priority access to these confidential documents.
On December 8, the rebels entered Damascus and declared the overthrow of the country's leader, Bashar al-Assad. The president left office and, together with his family, fled the country, seeking asylum in Russia. Before departing, he instructed for a peaceful transfer of power. On December 10, a transitional government was formed in Syria, headed by Mohammed al-Bashir. Since the change of power, Syrian territory has been subjected to regular airstrikes by the Israeli Air Force. By December 10, reports indicated that Israeli forces had targeted over 250 military sites across the country. Leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham Ahmed al-Sharaa called on the international community to intervene and halt the Israeli escalation.
