Türkiye condemns violence against US presidential candidate

14 July 2024 18:13

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the recent attack on US ex-President and current presidential candidate Donald Trump during a campaign event in Pennsylvania.

The incident, which occurred amidst the fervor of the upcoming elections, has sparked international concern and condemnation, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.

In an official statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry denounced the attack as an assassination attempt and described it as a direct assault on democratic principles. The ministry emphasized that any form of interference in democratic processes through violence, coup attempts, or other illegal means is entirely unacceptable and undermines the foundation of democratic governance.

"This assassination attempt is also an attack on the will of the people," the statement read. "Interference in democratic politics through violence, coup d'état, and other illegal means is unacceptable."

The attack on Donald Trump has prompted heightened security concerns and drawn widespread international attention. As investigations into the incident continue, global leaders are closely monitoring developments to ensure the integrity and safety of democratic processes both in the US and around the world.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry's unequivocal condemnation underscores the international community's commitment to upholding democratic values and respecting the democratic rights of all individuals, regardless of political affiliation.

US ex-President Donald Trump was the target of an apparent assassination attempt on July 13 at a Pennsylvania rally, days before he was to accept the Republican nomination for a third time. A barrage of gunfire set off panic, and a bloodied Trump, who said he was shot in the ear, was surrounded by Secret Service and hurried to his SUV as he pumped his fist in a show of defiance.
