Türkiye develops digital magnetic compass for Armed Forces
Türkiye has developed domestic digital magnetic compasses for defence purposes - an important component of optoelectronic systems and fire control systems.
Previously, such compasses were purchased from abroad.
Volkan Palaz, Deputy General Director of Anova Technologies, told the Anadolu Agency that, within the framework of agreements with the flagship of the domestic defence industry, ASELSAN, efforts continue to minimize the country's dependence on imports of military products.
Palaz said that work on a digital magnetic compass project started in 2019. The digital magnetic compass is widely used by the military, including for the needs of the Navy.
The head of the electronic development department of Anova Technologies, Ibrahim Altunsoy, in turn, said that as a result of the research, a high-tech product was produced weighing only 25 grams and costing about $80,000 per kg.
“When you look at something with an electro-optical system, the digital magnetic compass tells you where you are looking relative to magnetic north, i.e. the location of the target. Weapons and fire control systems can determine the location thanks to this system. It is also used in unmanned aerial vehicles and ground vehicles. At the first stage, we developed a product used in stationary systems, but we are also working on a compass for mobile devices," he said.
