Russia expands scope of extremist organisations to target communities
The Russian government has broadened the legal definition of extremist organisations to encompass extremist communities, following the enactment of a new law signed by President Vladimir Putin.
Under the revised legislation, the term “extremist organisation” now explicitly includes extremist communities as well as their founders, leaders, or participants who have been previously convicted for organising such communities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
This extension aims to tighten regulatory oversight and legal measures against groups deemed a threat to state security.
Additionally, information regarding extremist communities will be incorporated into the Ministry of Justice’s official registry of extremist organisations. Reflecting this change, the list’s title has been amended, and the law imposes prohibitions on the dissemination of any information about organisations included therein.
