Türkiye in TOP-5 countries in terms of tourist influx to Azerbaijan
As many as 311,000 tourists from Türkiye visited Azerbaijan in 2022.
Bahruz Asgarov, the Deputy CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, made the remarks on the sidelines of the 26th International Tourism Fair of the Eastern Mediterranean (EMITT) on April 16, Anadolu reports.
According to him, representatives of Azerbaijan's tourism industry had the opportunity to hold meetings with colleagues from Türkiye, as well as potential tourists.
"Türkiye is among the top five countries in terms of the number of tourists coming to Azerbaijan. This once again shows how important Türkiye is for the tourism industry in Azerbaijan. We have the potential to attract even more tourists from Türkiye. Citizens of our countries can travel only with an identity card, without visas and passports," he said.
Asgarov said that Azerbaijan is famous for its natural riches and historical monuments, which makes the country attractive to tourists.
"Azerbaijan has heavily invested in the development of summer, winter and medical tourism infrastructure. Baku attracts tourists with its modern and historical architecture. Modern winter tourism centres have been built in the north of the country, for example in the cities of Guba and Gusar. Three historical monuments are on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These are the Shirvanshahs' Palace and the Maiden Tower in the Icharishahar [Old City] town in the centre of Baku. In 2019, the historical centre of Shaki City was also included in the list, which is also among the attractive tourist destinations. It is located on the historic Silk Way," Asgarov said.
The representative of the office also recalled that Shamakhi has recently been declared the Tourism Capital of the Turkic World 2023 by the Organisation of Turkic States.
