Türkiye prioritises policy to combat violence against women - president
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Türkiye has made the fight against violence against women a priority of its policy.
He made the remarks while speaking at a program at Halic University to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Anadolu Agency reports.
"We consider the fight against violence against women as an integral part of our struggle to ensure the greatness and strengthening of the family," the president said.
At the same time, the Turkish leader noted that all attacks on the institution of family in the country have nothing to do with the protection of women's rights.
President Erdoğan noted that Türkiye is constantly updating legislation on violence against children and women and expressed confidence that the Board of Coordination for Combating Violence against Women established under the new regulation will carry out activities worthy of the Century of Türkiye.
"We provide state protection to abused women through women's shelters, violence response and monitoring centres and social services operating in 81 Turkish provinces," the president said.
In addition, the Turkish head of state emphasized the importance of solidarity in the fight against violence from all segments of society.
"We will all build a violence-free Türkiye together by confronting violence in solidarity with men, women, youth and the elderly. Türkiye's centenary will be the century of women," the president concluded.
