Türkiye ranks 12th among world’s arms exporters
Türkiye ranked 12th among the largest arms-exporting countries in the world in 2018-2022.
The country’s share in global arms exports was 1.1 per cent during the reported period, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) reports.
From 2018 through 2022, Türkiye exported the most weapons to Qatar. Qatar accounted for 20 per cent of Türkiye's total arms exports during this period. The UAE (17 per cent) and Oman (13 per cent) ranked second and third. In 2018-2022, Türkiye's arms exports surpassed those of Canada, Sweden, Australia, Poland, Belarus, Norway and South Africa.
At the same time, US arms exports to Türkiye fell sharply between 2013-2017 and 2018-2022 due to bilateral tensions. Türkiye has fallen from 7th to 27th place among the largest recipients of US weapons.
