Türkiye's economic confidence remains below neutral level
Economic confidence in Türkiye improved slightly in May, although the overall sentiment index remained below the neutral threshold, indicating continued pessimism about the country’s economic outlook.
According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute, the economic sentiment index rose to 97.2 points in May from 96.4 in April. Readings below 100 signal that negative expectations continue to outweigh positive ones across the economy, Caliber.Az reports.
Several sectors recorded gains during the month. Confidence in the manufacturing industry increased to 101.0 from 98.6, while the retail trade index climbed to 112.5 from 111.6.
However, sentiment weakened slightly in the services sector, where the index fell to 109.0 from 109.7 in the previous month.
The construction sector also showed further deterioration, with its confidence indicator declining to 82.1 from 83.6, remaining well below the neutral 100-point level.
Meanwhile, consumer sentiment was unchanged. The household confidence index held steady at 85.5, reflecting ongoing concerns among consumers about economic conditions and purchasing power.
