The Akrep II significantly enhances combat and reconnaissance capabilities, distinguished by its advanced weapon systems, high manoeuvrability, and versatility. One of the vehicle's key attributes is its exceptional mobility, achieved through a four-wheel drive system and an optional rear steering axle.
These technologies enable the vehicle to navigate challenging terrains, including mud, snow, and water, as well as to overcome natural obstacles on the battlefield. As a result, the Akrep II exhibits high adaptability to various combat conditions.
The John Cockerill turret mounted on the Akrep II is designed to integrate multiple weapon systems. In its standard configuration, it can be equipped with an automatic cannon of up to 90mm calibre, significantly boosting firepower.
The stabilisation system ensures high shooting accuracy, even while in motion. Moreover, the turret supports both direct and indirect targeting, allowing it to engage targets at both short and long ranges.
The Cockerill LCTS 90MP turret used on the Akrep II is notable for its low recoil, making it particularly effective for lightweight combat platforms. It accommodates a wide range of munitions, including high-explosive and anti-tank shells, rendering it suitable for various mission types, including reconnaissance and anti-tank operations. With an autoloader and a fully stabilised fire control system, the Akrep II can deliver precise fire even while on the move, with a target engagement range of up to 8 kilometres.
Designed for a three-person crew—driver, commander, and gunner—the Akrep II has a total weight of 15,500 kg and dimensions of 5.9 metres in length, 2.5 metres in width, and a hull height of 1.975 metres. Its low profile enhances protection and operational performance in the field. With a ground clearance of 400 mm, the Akrep II is adept at traversing rugged terrains.
Regarding its powertrain, the Akrep II offers multiple configurations, including diesel, hybrid, and fully electric options. These variants allow for optimal performance based on operational conditions and mission objectives. The electric version is particularly advantageous for covert operations due to its reduced thermal and acoustic signatures.
In combination with the John Cockerill turret, the Akrep II stands as a highly effective asset for reconnaissance missions and combat engagements. Its versatility, formidable firepower, and manoeuvrability make it an ideal choice for a variety of tasks on the modern battlefield.
