KARAOK, Roketsan's shortest-range anti-tank missile, is one of the most complex anti-tank missiles to develop as it is shoulder-launched and is a competitor to the US man-portable anti-tank system Javelin.
As part of the KARAOK project, new test firings were carried out. During shooting tests, the KARAOK ATGM was able to hit targets at distances of 1500, 1000 and 500 meters. Decommissioned M-47 main battle tanks were also used as targets in the tests.
It is known that the weakest point of main battle tanks is their upper parts, as this is the area with the least thickness of armour. For this reason, Roketsan has added a “top strike” mode to the anti-tank missiles it is developing. As you may recall, Russia, Israel, Japan and Armenia have all added umbrella-shaped add-ons to the tops of tanks to protect them from UAVs and top-attack anti-tank missiles.
It is expected that the KARAOK anti-tank missile will enter service with the Turkish Armed Forces in a very short time.
Although the KARAOK project was originally aimed at a range of 1.5 km, Roketsan managed to achieve a range of 2.5 km. Since the KARAOK missile will be launched from the shoulder, its weight has also been significantly optimized.
