Rear Admiral Tayfun Öznel, Head of Engineering Department of the Turkish Navy's Logistics Directorate, confirmed that design work for the project has already been completed, and the base will be located in Aksaz. The planned naval base is expected to be a crucial hub for the operations of Türkiye's expanding naval fleet, which includes the new generation of "giant" maritime assets.
The project, with an estimated cost of approximately 350 million euros, is being fast-tracked, and alternative financial solutions are currently being explored. The Ministry of National Defence is expected to submit a proposal for the project's implementation in 2025, according to Admiral Öznel.
The new base will play a vital role in strengthening Türkiye's naval defence capabilities, enhancing its maritime presence, and ensuring operational readiness for large naval assets, such as the TCG Anadolu.
