Against the backdrop of the change in the leadership of the Turkish Presidential Administration’s Defence Industry Directorate, a number of projects are planned to be accelerated by the end of 2023.

ASELSAN CEO Haluk Görgün, who replaced Ismail Demir as head of the Defence Industry Authority, gave a clear signal from his first day in office to maintain the course of development of the domestic defence industry, Anadolu reports.

Görgün assured that thanks to the efforts of domestic engineers, the success of the Turkish defence industry is known in different geographical regions.

He pointed out that Türkiye’s defence industry covers a wide list of companies, foundations, small and medium-sized enterprises and government agencies that will continue to work tirelessly to develop and improve domestic technology.

In line with the goals and vision voiced by Haluk Görgün, the country’s defence industry expects an intense work schedule by the end of the year.

For example, Türkiye’s fifth-generation combat aircraft, KAAN, will make its first flight in 2023.

There are also plans to complete preparations for the export of the HÜRJET combat training jet and light attack aircraft, which made its first flight this year. The first deliveries abroad are scheduled for 2025.

The first deliveries of the GÖKBEY utility helicopter are planned.

The naval combat support ship DERYA will be put on combat duty.

The first of the "Istanbul" class frigates - TCG İSTANBUL - is also planned to be put into service.

The TCG Piri Reis, the first submarine of the new type of submarine project, as well as the SIPER long-range surface-to-air missile system, will be put into service.

The first deliveries of domestic BOZDOĞAN and GÖKDOĞAN active radar-homing missiles are planned.

The first delivery of domestically produced VURAN armoured vehicles will be made.

The Turkish Army's inventory will be updated with the ERALP early warning radar system.

The MERT portable electronic attack system will also enter service with the army.

Türkiye’s Türksat 6A telecommunications satellite will be sent into space.

KARAOK short-range anti-tank system will be added to the Turkish Armed Forces inventory.

The Defence Industry Board also plans to continue the development of TF 2000 air defence systems, the GÖKTÜRK-3 SAR observation satellite, a hybrid space rocket engine, a microsatellite launch system, a fighter turbojet engine and KORAL new generation REB system.
