Türkiye welcomes progress in Iran–US talks, urges sustained diplomacy
Türkiye has welcomed progress in negotiations between the United States and Iran, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan saying Ankara hopes the talks will produce concrete results and contribute to long-term peace and stability.
Speaking at a press conference in Bangladesh, Fidan said: “The Iran-US conflict has a negative impact not only on our region but on the whole world. We note with satisfaction the progress in the negotiations between Iran and the US and hope that these talks will lead to concrete results and contribute to the establishment of lasting peace and stability," Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
He also stressed the importance of restoring normal conditions in key maritime routes, adding: “Restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and returning to the pre-war situation is a necessity from the point of view of the global economy, energy and security.”
Fidan said Türkiye is actively engaging in diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions in the Gulf region, noting that Ankara is maintaining “intensive consultations” with regional and international partners. He also praised mediation efforts by Pakistan, saying Türkiye “particularly appreciate[s] Pakistan’s mediation efforts to secure a sustainable ceasefire and continue to provide effective support for these efforts.”
At the same time, the Turkish foreign minister expressed concern over continued instability despite diplomatic progress.
“Despite progress in the negotiations, Ankara notes with deep concern the periodic breaches of the ceasefire,” he said, urging all parties to avoid actions that could undermine negotiations.
“The parties must avoid steps that could jeopardise the diplomatic process. The international community must demonstrate a united resolve to bring about a ceasefire,” Fidan added.
