Two dead, 68 injured in earthquake in Türkiye UPDATE

The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has tweeted that an earthquake measuring 5.9 occurred in Golcuk city near Istanbul (not far from Sea of Marmara).

The earthquake was recorded at 05:08 (GMT+4). Tremors were also felt in Ankara and Sakarya, Caliber.Az reports.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the Duzce province at a depth of 6.8 kilometres. Tremors were felt in many areas in  northwestern and central Türkiye.

Mayor of Duzce Faruk Ozlu said that according to the preliminary data, there were no casualties.

"According to available information, the number of injured is 35, including 32 of them in Duzce, one in Istanbul, one in Bolu and one in Zonguldak," Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.

Koca has said that 68 people were injured in the earthquake, one of the victims is in severe condition in the hospital.

He said that the patient connected to the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine is a 28-year-old Afghan citizen who was injured after falling from the first floor of the house, according to TRT Haber.

Forty-eight-year-old Hikmet Celebi was hospitalised in Duzce city after a heart attack due to an earthquake and died in the hospital, according to Cumhuriyet.

Sixty-three-year-old Sevim Cengel, who suffered a heart attack due to panic due to the earthquake, also died in Duzce.
