UAE confident of COP29 triumph under Azerbaijani leadership
The UAE Minister of State for Development and Future Government, Ohood Bint Khalfan Al Roumi, has said that the UAE was confident that the COP29 Climate Change Conference to be held in Azerbaijan in November, will be a historic success in tackling climate change.
She made the remarks at a forum on the exchange of experience between ministers of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Baku at Gulustan Palace, organised by the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innovations “ASAN Xidmət”, according to Report.
"I would like to congratulate Azerbaijan on hosting COP29 this November. Given Azerbaijan's pioneering efforts in promoting renewable energy and sustainable development, we are confident that COP29 under Azerbaijan's leadership will be a historic success," the minister said.
The event is attended by Ulvi Mehdiyev, Chairman of the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan, top officials of Azerbaijan and the UAE.
A video clip on cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UAE was shown at the opening of the forum.
Addressing the forum, Azerbaijan's First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev said that the ninth session of the Intergovernmental Commission of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is planned to be held in Shusha.
According to Aliyev, relations between Azerbaijan and the UAE are versatile and dynamic. Trade turnover between the countries has increased by more than 15 per cent.
He recalled that the Azerbaijan Trade House operates in Dubai.
The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made during COP28 in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan highlights the importance of involving diverse regions in global climate discussions, particularly in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This opportunity allows Azerbaijan to showcase its commitment to addressing climate change, enhancing its international standing in climate diplomacy.
