Ukraine launches its own investigation into attack on prisoners in Olenivka
The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office has launched its investigation into the attack on Ukrainian prisoners in occupied Olenivka (Donetsk region).
The incident with the murder of Ukrainian prisoners is a violation of the laws and customs of war, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to the message of the Prosecutor General’s Office on Telegram.
“According to the investigation, the occupier attacked the penal colony #120 in temporarily occupied Olenivka village of Volnovakha district in Donetsk region on July 29. About 40 people died and 130 were wounded,” the message said.
According to the Ukrainian side, civilians and prisoners of war of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are kept in this colony by the Russian Armed Forces.
The Russian side accuses the Ukrainian army of shelling while the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces denies this information.
According to the Ukrainian side, the prisoners were transferred to the barracks, which was attacked, only on the eve of the incident.
