Ukrainian delegation headed by Zelenskyy's aide arrives for talks with US in Jeddah
The head of the Ukrainian president's office, Andriy Yermak, has announced the arrival of the Ukrainian delegation for talks with the US in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
“The team is in place. We are getting ready to work. Protecting Ukrainian interests,” Yermak wrote, he wrote on his Telegram channel, Caliber.Az reports.
He also noted that the Ukrainian delegation will work effectively with Washington representatives at the talks.
On February 28, 2025, a highly contentious meeting took place in the Oval Office between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the meeting, President Trump advocated for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. In response, President Zelenskyy emphasized the necessity of robust security guarantees, expressing skepticism about Russia's commitment to honoring ceasefire agreements. This stance led to a heated exchange, with Vice President JD Vance accusing Zelenskyy of disrespect and President Trump criticizing him for being ungrateful for U.S. support.
The meeting, marked by heightened tensions and a public display of disagreement, ended abruptly without the anticipated signing of an agreement concerning Ukraine's rare earth minerals. The confrontation culminated in Zelenskyy leaving the White House without signing a planned minerals agreement, marking a significant strain in U.S.-Ukraine relations.
Following the meeting, Elon Musk has been vocal in his criticism of Zelenskyy. Musk accused Zelenskyy of perpetuating a "forever war" with Russia and suggested that Zelenskyy had the option to seek peace but chose continued conflict instead. He labeled Zelenskyy's actions as "evil," "cruel," and "inhumane."
