UN raises human rights concerns over Telegram chief case
The case involving Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has sparked significant concerns about human rights.
Ravina Shamdasani, a spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, highlighted the complexity of the situation, indicating that it raises numerous human rights issues Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
She mentioned that the Geneva-based office is contemplating the release of a document that will outline how such situations should be assessed.
Shamdasani also noted that the organization is closely following the ongoing developments in the case.
Notably, Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has been placed under judicial supervision in France on August 24 following serious charges. Durov was freed after paying a €5 million deposit and instructed not to leave France.
The case also involved allegations of violence against Durov's child, born in 2017, according to a French National Police source. Additionally, a lawsuit in Switzerland filed by Irina Bolgar, who claims to be the mother of Durov’s three children, accused him of abusing their son multiple times between 2021 and 2022.
The unfolding case has sparked significant public outrage, with protests erupting outside a Paris courthouse on August 28.
