UN Resident Coordinator pays tribute to victims of AZAL plane crash near Aktau
Vladanka Andreeva, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, has paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragic crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane near Aktau on December 25.
In a statement shared on the social network X, the UN office in Azerbaijan reported that Andreeva, along with representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Azerbaijan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Azerbaijan commemorated the AZAL plane crash victims, Caliber.Az reports.
“On behalf of UN in Azerbaijan, our UN Resident Coordinator together with FAO Azerbaijan and UNDP Azerbaijan representatives paid respect to the victims of the AZAL J2-8243 plane crash occurred on December 25. May God have mercy on them!” the post reads.

The crash occurred on December 25, when an Embraer 190 aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, flying from Baku to Grozny, tragically went down near Aktau. The flight had 67 people on board, including 37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakhs, and 3 Kyrgyz nationals. Tragically, 38 people lost their lives, while 29 survived.
