US reveals appeal from four countries to cut tariffs
US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent has said that the governments of Vietnam, India, South Korea, and Japan have made a joint appeal to the US, urging President Donald Trump to reconsider and reduce the tariffs he has recently imposed on goods from these nations.
Bessent emphasised that the US is ready to engage with countries willing to negotiate rather than escalate tensions, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“We have a response for those countries that are willing to come to the negotiating table rather than escalate the situation. The overwhelming majority of them, including our allies—Japan, South Korea, India—are all surrounding China. Representatives from Vietnam are arriving today,” he said.
On April 2, President Trump announced the introduction of customs tariffs on products from 185 countries and territories. Universal tariffs of 10 per cent took effect on April 5, while individual tariffs on April 9. Additionally, starting April 3, the US administration imposed a 25 per cent customs duty on all imported vehicles.
