US Undersecretary of State leaving her post
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has announced that Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland will leave her post in the coming weeks.
According to him, Nuland "played a role in which she personified the desire of US President Joe Biden to return diplomacy to a central position" in foreign policy, TASS reports.
Blinken noted that Nuland personally announced her desire to leave the post. After her resignation, her duties will be temporarily performed by Deputy Secretary of State John Bass.
In 2011, Nuland was appointed press secretary of the US State Department, and in 2013 she became Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. In 2017, after Donald Trump won the presidential election, Nuland left the State Department. She returned to the civil service in 2021.
