Uzbek citizen identified as suspect in Russian general's murder But Kremlin blames Kyiv
The Uzbek government promptly responded to a request from Moscow by providing all available information about the individual detained in Russia for the alleged murder of Lt-Gen Igor Kirillov, Head of Russia's Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defence Forces.
"The data on this citizen was immediately sent to Moscow." The suspect, an Uzbek citizen, has become the focal point of investigations into the high-profile assassination, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
Commenting on the matter, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov attributed the responsibility for the murder to the Ukrainian government, accusing Kyiv of resorting to terrorist tactics. "It is once again confirmed that the Kyiv authorities do not shy away from using terrorist methods," Peskov stated.
He further highlighted the swift and effective efforts of Russian special services and law enforcement agencies. "Our special services, law enforcement agencies are working efficiently, working quickly. Now it is already obvious who are the orderers, who are the organizers of this terrorist act," Peskov said.
Notably, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was killed in a bomb explosion in Moscow on December 17, 2024. The attack occurred near his residence, where an explosive device concealed in an electric scooter was detonated remotely, resulting in the deaths of Kirillov and his assistant.
Kirillov was a prominent figure in Russia's military structure, and his death has triggered heightened security measures. The Kremlin has emphasized that the investigation will continue to uncover further details about the perpetrators and their motives.
