Zelenskyy extends Ukraine's martial law, mobilization until May 9
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed laws extending the country’s martial law and general mobilization from February 8 to May 9, 2025, following approval from the Ukrainian parliament.
The laws, Bills No. 4220-IX and No. 4221-IX, were submitted by Zelenskyy on January 14 and swiftly passed by lawmakers the following day, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
In his recent statements, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of holding elections in Ukraine but noted that they could only occur once the active phase of the war has ended and martial law is lifted.
The extension of martial law follows a series of similar measures enacted since February 2022, at the start of Russia’s invasion, ensuring that these emergency powers remain in place nearly three years into the conflict.
