Zelenskyy reveals his expectations from 7th anti-Russia sanctions package
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has revealed his expectations from the seventh package of European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia.
“It is clear that no one can stand aside and not suffer when a catastrophe of such magnitude occurs in the world as it is happening now because of the Russian state. This is the reminiscent of the times of the Second World War, when the Nazi aggression endangered the lives of entire nations. Therefore, we must significantly increase pressure on Russia to stop this catastrophe and prevent such aggression from happening again,” Zelnskyy said during an online speech to the Luxembourg Parliament on June 2, according to Ukraine-based UNIAN news service.
“We need more weapons for Ukraine - modern weapons that will provide an advantage for our country over Russia in this war, not only due to courage, due to intelligence, but also technologically. And I ask you to defend this need in front of other European states,” Zelenskyy added.
He said that more sanctions should be imposed on Russia for the war.
"Immediately after the sixth package of sanctions starts working, we should all prepare the seventh one," Zelenskyy said.
The president explained that "all Russian officials who are involved in the war and all Russian judges who are complicit in repression should be sanctioned."
“The assets of these and other sanctioned persons, both individuals and legal entities, as well as the assets of the Russian state, which are stored in foreign jurisdictions, must be frozen,” Zelenskyy noted. “And we need to find a legal opportunity to confiscate them to send them to compensate for the losses that Russia inflicted on the victims of the war. It will be fair. And it is instructive for the aggressor.”
On May 31, the European Union agreed on the sixth package of sanctions against Russia, which provides for a significant restriction on oil imports from Russia.
