bp eyes to commission three more wells at Shah Deniz

04 February 2023 12:02

bp’s regional president for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye Gary Jones has said that bp plans to commission three more wells at the Shah Deniz gas condensate field this year.

Jones made the remarks at the ninth ministerial meeting of the Advisory Council on the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) in Baku on February 3, Trend reports on February 4.

He noted that the company also plans to launch the remaining fifth flank - East-North.

Jones said that this will help further increase supplies along the SGC.

“We are also developing our well-drilling programme: a total of 21 wells have been drilled and drilling of 19 wells out of the planned 26 has been completed. Some 14 of them are already operating on four flanks,” the regional president noted.

According to the data of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy, 25.2 billion cubic metres of natural gas were produced at the Shah Deniz field in 2022.

The proven reserves of Shah Deniz are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic metres of gas and 240 million tons of condensate.

The shareholding in the Shah Deniz project is as follows: bp (operator) - 29.99 per cent, LUKOIL - 19.99 per cent, TPAO - 19 per cent, SOCAR - 14.35 per cent, NICO - 10 per cent and SGC – 6.67 per cent.
