Pundit: Yerevan's actions shows alliance with Armenia detrimental to Russia

26 March 2023 13:24

Armenia's decision to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has once again proved Russia's disadvantage in the alliance with Armenia.

The statement came from the Russian political analyst Aleksei Naumov, according to Report.

Naumov said that Russia gains nothing from the alliance with Armenia today, except for claims that the Russian Federation instead of Armenia should pursue its foreign policy.

“Recently, Yerevan has taken a course of stretching out a thousand hands to a thousand different partners, so that someone would support the position, which is overshadowed by the unwillingness to fulfill the obligations assumed under the trilateral agreements. And here, as often happens in comedy films, the timing was unfortunate. Undoubtedly, the issue of the ICC in the Armenian-Russian relations causes bewilderment and questions. The Russians are wondering: why does Russia’s ally in the South Caucasus not think about the informational consequences of its move at all?” Naumov said.

The Russian pundit stressed that an alliance with Baku is very beneficial for Moscow: "This alliance is really economically beneficial, politically justified and cemented by the excellent relations of both states. It will have a cumulative effect.”
