Armenia takes part in talks on preparation of CSTO drills

    REGION  30 March 2023 - 18:21

The first staff talks on the preparation of joint exercises with the collective forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), scheduled for 2023, took place at the CSTO Joint Headquarters.

As Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Russian media, this was reported by the press service of the headquarters.

The staff talks were held on March 28-30. Representatives of concerned ministries and agencies of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, as well as the Secretariat and the CSTO Joint Staff took part in the talks.

“In 2023, a complex of exercises with the troops (Collective Forces) of the CSTO will be held in the form of a joint operational-strategic exercise “Combat Brotherhood”, which is the highest form of joint training in the format of the Organization. In different regions of the CSTO area of responsibility, all elements of the collective security system will be involved,” the press service said.

During the talks, the basic ideas for holding joint exercises, the composition of command and control bodies and troops involved in the exercises, issues of organizing leadership, as well as comprehensive support for joint and special exercises were considered.

As part of the joint operational-strategic exercise Combat Brotherhood-2023, a set of measures has been planned.

In particular, joint and special exercises are planned in the territory of Belarus, combining the training of various components of troops (Collective Forces) of the CSTO, including a joint exercise with the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force "Interaction-2023," practicing tasks to resolve the crisis situation in the Eastern European region of the CSTO collective security.

"A special exercise with the joint formation of radiation, chemical and biological protection and medical support "Barrier-2023" will be held in the territory of the Republic of Belarus for the first time," the press service noted.

At the final stage of the joint operational-strategic exercise "Combat Brotherhood-2023" in the Central Asian region of collective security, it is planned to conduct a joint exercise with the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces "Indestructible Brotherhood-2023".

The tasks of post-conflict settlement in the crisis zone will be practiced in the territory of Kyrgyzstan by conducting a peacekeeping operation with the use of forces and means of the CSTO collective security system in the interests of maintaining peace and security.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the country's Ministry of Defense had informed the CSTO about the inexpediency of holding the "Indestructible Brotherhood-2023" exercise of the CSTO peacekeeping contingents in the country. In mid-February, the head of the CSTO joint headquarters, Anatoly Sidorov, announced that the Indestructible Brotherhood exercises would be held in Kyrgyzstan.
