Media: Election results cause big disagreements in Armenia’s ruling party

The results of the elections to Yerevan’s Council of Elders have caused big disagreements between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and supporters of mayoral candidate Tigran Avinyan from the Civil Contract party.

“Avinyan is dissatisfied with the non-alternative prospect of creating a coalition with the Republican Party. The ruling party is trying to find ways to maintain power and is taking active steps to grab one or two mandates from the National Progress and Public Voice parties or the Mother Armenia bloc, which could play a decisive role in electing Avinyan mayor. Some party members understand that the West’s desire to turn first Hayk Marutyan [former mayor of Yerevan] into mayor, and then into another Zelenskyy, is great, and they no longer have outside support,” Yerevan’s “Iravunk” newspaper reports citing its sources, Caliber.Az reports.
