Armenians remaining in Karabakh continue to live peacefully ICRC finds no traces of "ethnic cleansing"
Despite the fact that the majority of the Armenian population of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan has moved to Armenia after successful local anti-terrorist activities, there are still Armenian residents in the territories returned under Baku's sovereignty who have decided to continue living in Azerbaijan.
Caliber.Az reports with reference to the Azerbaijani edition of Radio Liberty that representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) go around the villages in Karabakh, talk to the remaining Armenians, and find out their needs and requirements. At the same time, it is noted that no one touches them or kicks them out of their homes. This is irrefutable proof that there is not even a hint that Azerbaijan has conducted or is conducting "ethnic cleansing" in the territories liberated from occupation.
Thus, Agharon Khazaryan, who lives in the village of Gizilgaya, told ICRC representatives that he and his elderly father had decided to stay and not move to Armenia.
"My mother is buried here, my father is 92 years old. Where are we going to go? If I suggest him to move to Armenia now, he will die on the way," said Khazaryan.
According to ICRC spokesman Chris Paul, they have received information that Armenians continue to live in Karabakh villages.
"They stayed here for family or other reasons. Some want to leave, some don't," Paul said.
In an interview with the ICRC, an Armenian woman who remained living in one of the Karabakh villages said that she could move around the neighbourhood safely and that "no one stops her".
