Iranian envoy urges clarification of Karabakh missing persons

11 October 2025 17:11

Iran's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, has underscored the critical importance of determining the fate of those who went missing during the Karabakh conflict.

His remarks came during a visit to Zangilan, where he spoke to a Report correspondent on the sidelines of a conference dedicated to missing persons.

The ambassador emphasised the humanitarian dimension of the issue, stating, "It is crucial to clarify the fates of those who went missing. Their family members should receive information about their fate."

Demirchilou also extended congratulations to the Azerbaijani people on the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

"I've been working in Baku for over three months now. We arrived here [in Zangilan] together with participants of the conference dedicated to those missing as a result of the conflict," he said.

Reflecting on his long-standing connection to Azerbaijan, the ambassador shared a personal memory from nearly three decades ago.

"I worked in Baku in previous years as well. Twenty-seven years ago, while in Goygol, I looked out from there toward Karabakh and thought about how I would one day be able to travel to those lands. I am very glad that this dream has come true," he added.
