Washington mayor signs Proclamation on Azerbaijan's Independence Day

On the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Mayor of the American capital Muriel Bowser declared May 28 in Washington as Azerbaijan's Independence Day and signed a Declaration on this occasion.

The Declaration notes that the first parliamentary democratic republic in the Muslim world, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, was established in 1918, which carried out several important reforms, including granting women the right to vote for the first time in the East, Azertag reports.

In this connection, more than 50 million Azerbaijanis in the world mark the anniversary of this event as Independence Day.

This year is the 33rd anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence and the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US and Azerbaijan.
